This blog is dedicated to Mr. Lloyd Bader and my fellow travelers who were there in the 1950s and 60s learning and marching in the Cove Youth Band located in Carlsbad Ca. My hope is others who have memories of those experiences will find this site and we can all share our nostalgia and good remembrances.

Aloha what a surprise to find my search of Bader’s Cove youth band actually came up we lived in the apartments above mr. Bader’s music office I took piano lessons from mrs. Bader’s that I cheated because I read the numbers instead of learning to read the notes I was terrible at it I’m 64 and a half years old today and I wished I had learned how to play the piano so I could play it as beautifully as my sister-in-law who was married to my half-brother Steven at the time learning how to play the trumpet from Mr. Bader my older brother who passed away from diabetes and 2012 learn how to play the tuba under mr. Bader’s instruction my sister and I were both baton girls we wore little velvet turquoise shorty sailor type baton girl outfits unfortunately I don’t think we have any pictures left towards the end of 64 in the middle of my 6th grade year at Jefferson Elementary where mrs. Harper was my teacher we moved up to San Clemente we didn’t keep in touch with the Bader’s

Interesting find. I remember the COVE Youth Band from my childhood in Carlsbad and Oceanside. Didn’t have anything to do with it myself, but it was a fixture in North County parades and events in the ’50s and ’60s. Mr. Bader struck me as a sort of real-life Music Man figure.
